I've been a stereo photographer for over 10 years now. My current system consists of two Nikon DSLRs and a number of lenses - my current favourite being Sigma ultrawide 15-30mm zoom. My favourite way to see my photos is a stereoscopic shutter glass based digital projection system - projected on a 120" screen.
My fascination with three dimensional photography started when I worked for Nokia Research Centre as a virtual reality research engineer and explored ways to use stereoscopic projection in virtual reality collaboration environments. One of the projects my team completed was a 3D scanner of human face by using two video CCD cameras and a structured light projector - allowing a 3D copy of human face be created in matter of seconds - non-intrusively. Idea of using the resulting cluster of 3D vertex data for biometric user recognition was successfully patented in 2004 - [ U.S. patent 6,775,397 ] Even though I don't work in virtual reality field anymore, I still love anything stereoscopic and love traveling around the world and coming back home with more and more lifelike stereoscopic photography!
